Magnificent

Him and Trev were a marvellous combination in attack

And let's not forget the wonderful Brian Moore who always had a soft spot for us despite supporting Gillingham

Re: Pop Robson
Club legend, even if he did play for Chelsea. We can let him off like Sir Geoff

Re: Pop Robson
He was so much sharper than those people who tried to mark him. He managed to get a shot off before they realised he had the ball. I remember one game at the Boleyn against Leeds where he appeared from nowhere to hear the ball past the keeper and the crowd only started to cheer the goal as the keeper was picking it out of the net.

Re: Pop Robson
We could do with someone who can hit a corner like Sir Trev. Right in the mixer, every time.

And bear in mind he did it with a heavy, wet ball on a sodden pitch!

Great video...just realized that we didn't even have a badge on our shirts in '72.

Re: Pop Robson
My brother who is quite a bit older than me was a big Pop Robson fan and would probably tell me to fuck off.

Re: Pop Robson
Cottee because he had a far more powerful shot on him and was more accurate I think these day's Pop would not have got half those goals although many were brilliantly in the corner the goalkeepers are far better and have been for 30 years.

I was also a young teen when Cottee was doing the biz so I may be sided toward him.

Who was better Cottee or 'pop' Robson?

HairyHammer 3:04 Sat Feb 17
Re: Pop Robson
He knows what he is going to do 2 seconds before the ball gets to him, great instinct reminds me of Cotee a bit.

Brooking must have loved him.

"he was so good I nicked his name"

And that's illusions shattered right there... are there no West Ham legends posting here?

Re: Pop Robson

I've got both his West Ham home debut programmes signed by the great man himself

Get the Big Match DVD of the 70s it's like Pop scored all our goals

Still we've got Andy Carroll now another Geordie

Re: Pop Robson
Great striker, probably the most natural and instinctive finisher I ever saw play for West Ham. I seem to recall towards the end of his career when he'd lost his pace he dropped back into midfield, a bit like what Rooney has done. Shame really because he wasn't much good there. Probably stayed on a bit too long like Nolan. Shame really, but overall a terrific player.

Lovely. Pop was my first West Ham hero. I remember being a kid and not believing a bloke could jump that high to head a ball. In my childhood mind he was a superhuman.

Re: Pop Robson
There was a great video (probably from the old bbc sat lunchtime footy show on grandstand) showing a Pop Robson finishing masterclass.

Its still phenomenal now.

Re: Pop Robson
I seem to remember that he got injured and we had a front three of Bobby Gould, Billy Jennings and Keith Robson who at that time arresting goals for fun. Alan Taylor replaced Gould and Pop thought that he wouldn't get back in the team, so agitated for a transfer when he got got again. Taylor didn't really doing the second season and Keith Robson got in trouble with the law, so they resigned Pop.
